Is it best to have a c-section or normal delivery with SLE?

There used to be a time when doctors said Lupus got worse with pregnancy. Now they're saying it actually goes into remission due to the hormones. I am SSA positive. I have had 3 children no issues. The last 2 were in middle to late thirties. They will likely have you see a high risk doctor however. My last child had a spot on his brain and heart but it resolved after month 4. It was after when I stopped taking my meds to nurse that it started flaring but it took about 9 months so at least my kids got some mommy milk. My daughter (who has been having a lot of flare ups lately) Rheumatologist asked her if she would consider having a 2nd child recently to give her body a break from the flares. Go figure. I would not recommend that lol!

I too had no issues with pregnancy my OB monitored me closely I got to have an ultrasound every three weeks😀. I did have some complications during delivery and ended up with a c- section both myself and my son had unexplainable fevers for a few days then we're fine. He's as healthy as can be😀

Pregnancy and delivery with lupus is different for everyone. I sailed right through with no problems. The biggest issue is some of the meds we take are contraindicated with pregnancy and the hormone changes can affect our Lupus. As for c-section the risk for us having to have one is pretty much on par with any other woman depending on what if any organs your lupus affects like your heart or kidneys. Unless a c-section is indicated a vaginal delivery is always best. C-sections are major abdominal surgery with the associated risks and also take a much longer recovery period than vaginal delivery.

I was 36 when I had my daughter. I was a high risk. I had a c-sect because the doctor didnt want trauma
to face my kidney. She was taken 3 days before her due date. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2016, she was born in 2009. I already the signs, but they went unnoticed.

I was 36 when I had my daughter. I had her by c-sect. My OB at the time wanted to do the C-sect before I went into Labor so my kidney wouldnt be stressed. So she was taken 3 days before she was due. All pregnancies are different. even in Lupus cases.
