TN

I have a question. I was just prescribed Plauqenil and was given Hydroxycloroquine (Zydus). Less than two weeks in, I had an extremely bad allergic reaction. It started out with these ugly, itchy red hives on my left arm. Overnight, they spread to my right arm. Then, within a few more hours they spread to my legs and trunk. It was awful!!! They burned and itched and made me physically ill
Thankfully, Benadryl and a steroid dose pack has the hives on the run. My concern is, what now???… read more

I had this same problem! I was given hydroxychloroquine by the manufacturer Mylan. I developed hives and extreme shortness of breath that led to the ER. I then tried taking still the generic hydroxychloroquine by the manufacturer Ranbaxy and have no problems with it! In my case I was most likely allergic to the fillers. Good luck to you on figuring this out. Hang in there.

If you have an allergic reaction to plaquenil, most of all a Rash, PLEASE BE CAREFUL, it can be very dangerous. I hope the generic, which i take, works for you, but if you get a rash again you should discontinue and see your Dr, ASAP.

They tried me on it two different times -second time on a lower dose. Both times I ended up in the ER with severe chest pains. They took me off of it! I consider that a bad reaction!
Other circumstances have developed, so now I'm on Imuran. Everyone is different and has different effects of the meds. This is something I'm slowly learning. I have taken both the generic and the brand name. Both ended up the same way.

I was on plaquenil for quite some time. It caused all sorts of other problems but not an allergic one. That was a miricale because I belong in a bubble with all my allergies. I was on the generic as well. I have also been on Methotrexate, Streriods, Azthioprine, countless Antibiotics, and am currently on CellCept, generic.

Hiya!

Sorry for the delay. No the results came back as inconclusive as the high steroid dose masked everything. They're pretty confident it was a reaction to the drug rather than a flare up. Possibly going on Azathioprine but waiting to see. Took me about 2 months to get over it fully so not too keen on starting anything else! How are you getting on? :-)
