Is there another medication that I can take in place of plaquenil so I don't have to see a eye doctor every 3 months because I don't have vision on my insurance plan?

Instead of going on plaquenil, my doc started me on benlysta. It's an infusion that you get once a month. There are very expensive if you don't have insurance tho. But if your doc thinks that would work best, then I'd at least give it a try. It helps a lot of people!

It should be covered under your medical plan because of the lupus and meds you are taking. It was for me.

Your eye exams are covered by your insurance because you are on the plaqunil. I have been on it for many years and actually worked for optometrist - make sure you tell them and if they will not bill it find another doc. Should go to an ophthalmologist at least one of the two times a year. I only have to get one every 6 mo.
