I have always had more than normal hair loss. I've been taking 400 MG a day of Plaquenil for 8 months now and my hair loss has increased dramatically. Has this happened to anyone else?

I been on plaquenil for a year now and i must say since being on this med my hair loss has improve alot i say this because i lost a lot of hair because i went so many years untreated for my sle lupus .. I still experienced mild hair loss and it can be because of the plaquenil said my doc.. So i dont wash my hair as much and i use shampoo and conditioner with Biotin and it ..

I go back to my rheumatologist the 22nd of this month, I'll ask her then. My husband said he thinks I should get my Plaquenil dosage lowered because of the reviews he has read. I go to the eye doctor every 6 months anyway because how bad my eye sight is. I cut over 12 inches of my hair off thinking it would help. It's the same.

I lost a lot of hair when first diagnosed and was put on a steroid. After getting off of it my hair grew back. Lupus can cause hair loss, however. I recently had a flair and began losing hair again. Be sure to get your eyes checked while on Plaquenil!

My understanding is that hair loss can just be from lupus. Plaquenil does not cause hair loss. Steroids can, though.
