What is this condition
The adrenal glands are above the kidneys. They control lots of different hormones such as the sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen) and cortisol. Cortisol is our stress hormone. If you take a lot of steroids like we often have to with lupus, it suppresses your cortisol levels. Therefore, when we encounter a stressful situation, we may not be able to cope as well. Sometimes I feel like I just shut down when I get really stressed. This is also why they give you extra cortisol for surgeries for your body to be able to cope w the stress of the surgery.
The adrenal glands are located just above the kidneys! My suggestion to @A MyLupusTeam Member was google it or Web MD to find correct answers! I was right about it ruling hormones in the body! Regulates blood pressure, electrolytes in your body, balances sex drive too many to name Judy look this Up! I have always been a researcher on web when I need to know something when I 1st got diagnosed with Lupus ! We must remember Our Immune system fights it own self...Crazy, I know but that what we live with, any organ sets of organs, skin can be effected! Good Luck Judy!
It regulates your blood pressure and so many other things but if you have it don't mess around, I found out the hard way you can die from this. Every time you get sick you will need extra cortisol and for surgery and everything else. It also regulates you sleep rhythm, without it you will be do messed up. Go and talk with the endocrinologist because you need to know if you have it. You also need a medic alert tag and must wear it alwsys.
@JudyTravisI am recalling off top of my head but it's what it says it. The adrenal gland which if I remember is on the brain! Go to web md Or google that you will get correct info. That gland rule your body, hormones & etc.
