Does anyone else has problems with their throat closing up? It's hard to explain but the upper right side of my throat, near my uvula, swells and gets really small. I'm supposed to see my ENT today but not sure how to explain it. I have trouble swallowing, too. He did surgery on my sinuses in October and it didn't seem to really help much. Still having major sinus issues and drainage. Could the inflammation be related to the drainage?

Inflammation does happen on any part of your body where Lupus is concerned. I have that issue a lot. My sinuses are off the chain and that post nasal drip drives me crazy!! I have been taking this remedy of 2 Tbsps of apple cider vinegar in 6 oz of warm water once a day. It clears out mucus, brings swelling down, and it helps your digestive tract run smooth. I've recently added a dash of kayenne pepper which boost up the metabolism. Btw, the apple cider vinegar has to have what they call,"The mother" in it. It won't be clear, more of a cloudy like liquid. I've been doing it for a short time but has notice allot of differences swallowing along with the mucus sub-sided. This remedy was given to me by a licensed nutritionist if any were wondering. But as a safety precaution and because everyone's body work differently, please consult your Pcp. Hope this help and take care.

Thank you all so much. It makes much more sense after reading your experiences. It also gives me lots of things to ask a new ENT about.

My throat tried to close up completely during a hospital stay that I don't remember. I was totally comatose I guess because of the fever that I had. I do have sinus problems, infections, etc which start up fever and once the fever gets started it just keeps going up up up ! That's when I land in the hospital so my doc gives me methylprednisone and levoquin at the first sign of my fever bumping up. I don't think the throat closing is an unusual problem in us lupites. And I do have GERD and take Prilosec every day which is going to destroy my bones and I don't know what else the side effects can be. I just have to not worry too much about side effects and as long as I feel ok then I am ok. I hope this helps. I am going to take up that vinegar and water routine. I've heard of that a lot before - and lemon, too. Prayers for you and stay calm and just keep on keeping on! {>

Yes, I have the same issue. It's a horrible feeling to feel your throat closing up.on you. Do u carry an Epi Pen?
I am constantly coughing and clearing my throat. It's embarrassing and noisy. I carry water and little candies like life savers to try calm the cough, but it doesn't help with the swelling.
Personally, if it's really severe, ask for an Epi Pen.
