In the last year I have gained 40 pounds. I'm depressed and uncomfortable in my own skin. It seems no matter what I do it just won't go away. I understand that for some weight gain with lupus is inevitable, but it's really hard for me to even look in the mirror anymore. Along with Systemic Lupus I have, Reynauds, Gastroparisis, Arthritis, Hashimoto and am anemic. Today as I was talking with my primary care doctor she decided to prescribe me Adipex for a month. I just wanted to see if anyone else… read more
I have SLE. No meds for it along with hashimoto's..no meds for that either cause my "values are all normal " weight gain like crazy no doc would believe me ..finally found endo doc I think was sick of my complaints and put me on phentermine just to help loose the weight..well it worked awesome!! In fact I have no lupus symptoms..labs are better than ever..weight is gone added bonus.
Thank you for the information :). I also have to take a monthly B-12 injection but like you I can't really tell a difference. I'm really hoping by taking the Adipex and hopefully losing weight will also help with the fatigue.
Please let me know if it works. I too am uncomfortable with the weight gain. I used to work out, but it only exasperated my pain.
Since I was diagnosed I have gained 50 pounds! I am in constant severe pain 24/7 and I have absolutely zero energy and very bad fatigue. I asked my primary care doctor if she would prescribe a weight loss med. She agreed and wrote a script for Belviq. At follow up two weeks later, I had only dropped 1 1/2 pounds - I was disappointed. I had read about a combo of Belviq and phentermine (generic Adipex) and asked her if I could try that because I thought it might help to give me energy and combat the constant overwhelming fatigue. She agreed and also gave me a B12 injection (it's supposed to give you energy). I have only been on the combo for 3 days and I can really feel a difference in my appetite (I am satisfied with smaller portions and really don't crave snacks like I used to). On the downside, neither the B12 or the addition of phentermine has helped with the low energy/constant fatigue. Good luck!
In my research unexplained weight loss and weight gain are possible. Before I was diagnosed I dropped 20 pounds without trying. Over the last year I have gained 20 even with working out. I am always swollen and I don't like my body. I don't need to be a size 2, but I would like to be comfortable in my own skin.
