Your adrenal glands make hormones. One of these is cortisol, which helps your body deal with stress. Adrenal fatigue is what happens when you are under stress for prolong periods and the adrenals basically exhaust themselves resulting in many system in-balances. The symptoms are very similar to lupus, but wouldn't account for numbness or pain in your back. Prednisone stops the production of cortisol, which is why you can't just quit Pred suddenly.
Thanks for the info Kim ,i Hope your feeling good, enjoy this beautiful weekend!
The adrenal glands are located right above your kidneys, my doctor said lower back pain and numbness is causing it. I have so many things going on its hard to treat one without being bad for another. I hope everyone has a blasted Saturday!
I have had constant numbness in a huge section in my back for 19 years now. I had it before I was diagnosed or on any medication. So I come to the conclusion that it is a result of the lupus itself. It was quite out of control at the time. I now also have a numb toe.
I didn't see the medications you are on. Steroids can do all of those things....There is also metabolic syndrome to consider. I hope you can figure it out. Don't give up and keep them looking for the reason - might be Lupus, medication side effects or neither...
