I've had Crohn's Disease my entire adult life but only in the last dozen (or so) years have the Rheumy's been linking me to Lupus as well. As the symptoms continue to stack up, leading MOST (including me) to conclude SLE, my main Rheumy is still in the "let's wait and see what more develops" mode. Really? I was hoping to get input from "Real" Lupies on what constitutes a FEVER. How far above the normal 98.6 degree Fahrenheit do you need to go before you consider yourself feverish? Since my… read more
Again, finding it more than a little interesting Lupies tend to run lower than normal temps. Today, I awakened feeling great! I was at my normal 97.6. Then, by noon, I hit 99.2 and felt awful--feverish. Couple hours later, 97.9. Now, bedtime, back up to 99.1. This temp yoyo effect is something I ASSUME is lupus related but since it doesn't qualify as a "high temperature," I cannot be sure. I'll keep good records and see what my Rheumy has to say. If the past is any indication, she will say, "Ho Hum!" That being said, it IS comforting hearing so many of my Lupie friends have similar experiences to me that I feel less kookie! 😎
Wow! I am AMAZED by how many of you came right back with sub-normal "normals." I wonder if any researchers have ever connected the dots--that Lupies consider their normal about a full degree below what doctors say is normal. I know that when I was at 99.7, I felt HORRIBLE even though that only represented two degrees above my regular temp. The more time I spend on this site with you fine people, the more I think I need to take what my doctors say with a grain of salt! The biggest factor: they don't HAVE Lupus so they are clueless how it feels and what it means! Thanks, Lupies!!! With love, Phil.
My normal is 97.6, so when it's over that, for me it's running a fever. Although I do have a hard time trying to convince my primary Care Doctor otherwise. Last time I went in it was 99 and I said it's high. He said "Oh you're ok...." Well, I'm in a flare right now :( Going to Rheumy for that.
I would think that if your normal is 97.6 that 99.6 would be considered a fever for you. Just my opinion.
God Bless
Hi, my "normal" temp is like yours, 97.6. For me, if it goes above that to say 98.2 I feel feverish and ill. That's a fever for me. It comes and goes, just depends on what I did.
I know for me 99.6 is a low grade fever, my normal is 96.7 - 97.2. I also feel it in my body. When it gets above 99.6, or if it last for more than a day, I develop other issues such as rashes. So yes 99.6 is a fever. God's blessings and soft hugs
