Has anyone taking imuran had a problem with pitting edema..I'm trying to figure out if this is a side effect.
Hi @A MyLupusTeam Member Imuran is an immunosuppressive drug that belongs to the chemical class of purine analogues. It is used following transplants, in MS and IBD, and for several autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and lupus with recurring flares. It is processed through the liver, but
Hi @A MyLupusTeam Member There are a number of side effects, including:
* Most common- nausea and vomiting;
* Common- dizziness, diarrhea or tarry stools, chest pain, cough, fever or chills, back pain, painful or difficult urination, red spots on the skin, shortness of breath, sores in the mouth, bleeding or bruising, tiredness or weakness, fatigue, skin rashes, hair loss, skin cancer (it is a class 1 carcinogen).
* Edema and acute sinusitis are listed as a side effect that is likely under-reported complication because they the FDA only receives the worst . (http://factmed.com/study-AZATHIOPRINE-causing-P..., http://factmed.com/study-IMURAN-causing-ACUTE%2...).
It might be a good idea, as @A MyLupusTeam Member stated, to contact your doctor and if it's possible, take pictures and keep track (maybe a spreadsheet or diary) of what's going on to accurately discuss it.
I take Imuran as one of my kidney transplant drugs. As long as I don't eat alot of sodium I don't swell, but everyone that has kidney problems will have some edema at the end of the day if on your feet long will have swelling around your ankles, but I don't get it if I am not on my feet all day. I take 100mg of Imuran daily. If your having pitted edema what does your doctor say and do you have kidney problems? Are you on Lasix? I don't think Imuran is the problem so make sure you take pictures and times you have this problem to show your doctor.
Best answers. .thank you all
