Has anyone been prescribed Acthar Gel Injections for Lupus Nephritis?? I'm having horrible side effects on Prednisone and my Nephrologist suggested Acthar as a non-steroid alternative. I'm having trouble getting my insurance company to approve it, but still hopeful that I can obtain it and get some relief. I know it's a very expensive drug, but has anyone had any good/bad experiences with it??
I've just done my 4th injection. 2x wk 1 mL. No noticeable difference as yet. My ophthalmologist is actually who prescribed for my anterior scleritis but I'm hoping to get a two-fer and it also help my Lupus. The only drug that has done anything for me so far is prednisone at high dosages. I've tried Methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine and azathioprine. I was actually handling the azathioprine fine until I got covid and then every time I tried to get back with my dosage, I would be in the bathroom all day with vomiting and diarrhea. Makes no sense to me. Anyways, the company has an awesome patient support and so far, I haven't had to pay anything, but they are still trying to get my insurance to cover. If that happens, they sent me a co-pay card to use for my cost after insurance. If they don't approve, they say I won't have to pay for a calendar year. Fingers crossed.
