I wonder if anyone else has a problem with there body jerking when relaxed or going to sleep or are sleeping and it wakes you up. I used to have it on and off but find it is happening more often. First it was my stomach that would jerk and wake me up if I did not know better it was lick being kicked when you where pregnant a strong one. I have it in my legs, stomach and arms. But I have not noticed it happening when I am busy or awake. I use oxygen at night and I have sleep apnea so I though… read more

Members connected over the shared experience of body jerking and jolts, with many noting it happens most often at night or when falling asleep, and some describing violent spasms that wake them or even cause falls. Several members shared treatments that helped, including muscle relaxants like Robaxin, medications for restless leg syndrome like Pramipexole, Ativan, and checking levels of magnesium, iron, and potassium with their doctors. A recurring theme was that conditions like Lupus Myoclonus, Lupus Chorea, RLS, and even medication side effects from gabapentin may all play a role, and members encouraged each other to speak with their doctors.

Have you had your magnesium levels checked @A MyLupusTeam Member could be hypomagnesaemia (magnesium deficiency) it can cause the body to shake or jerk uncontrollably it also causes spasms & tremors which is probably what you've been experiencing lately they make you feel as if you are having seizures or as if you're experiencing symptoms of parkinsonism it can also cause you to become anxious which can sometimes cause your body to shake or jerk cause it's going into that fight or flight mode. Normal magnesium levels are between 1.7–2.2 mg/dL with levels less than 1.7 mg/dL (0.7 mmol/L) defining hypomagnesaemia.

I usually have to be taken to the nearest ED when this happens to me they check all of my levels and usually it's either my iron that's low or my magnesium levels once they give me a warm blanket to feel comfortable and give me a magnesium treatment i am back to my usual self and I knock out probably an hour later.

Please have a chat with your doctor & let us know how everything goes @A MyLupusTeam Member

sounds like what most of you are experiencing are convulsions they have anti-convulsion medications like Artane it takes like 15 to 30 minutes to work but when it does i can finally sleep i usually take my anxiety medications and Zofran to help with the nausea and that knocks me out. I do hope you all get to the bottom of this, i don't feel well i haven't felt well or like myself in a while, i'm gonna shut my laptop down and sleep which is all i've been wanting to do lately, been feeling nauseous like i'm gonna puke everywhere and having headaches on top of that i don't like the panic attacks i've been experiencing i felt like i was gonna die a few days ago lol, anyway i pray you feel better and those convulsions or body jerks go away i am gonna try to sleep off this feeling without taking anything for the way my brain feels which is weird, have a great day or night everyone.

stay strong, stay safe, be strong, and be safe.

@A MyLupusTeam Member I have had the same jerking movements for years. They wax and wane in intensity depending on my lupus activity. It got so bad that my arms would flail as well and actually hit people. LOL. I was sent to a movement neurologist and he dx me with Lupus Chorea..of course it's rare in lupus. I find that it's much better now with the CellCept. The dr offered me meds to calm down the muscles but I don't need them so far. I can deal with it. One positive note

....you do lose weight with all that muscle movement going on. πŸ˜›

I had jerks when my potassium level was low. Eating bananas brought it under control (it was the doctor's idea.) It worked for me.
