Anyone know if they can NOT charge you more for health insurance due to having a medical condition?

I have to renew my Obamacare soon and I was told that since I have Lupus they can not up my rate for my monthly premium . Is this true ? I'm currently paying $104 a month and it's supposed to go up to about $150

Insurance companies make a profit by carefully betting that people over all will spend less on health care than they paid in insurance premiums. This means ALL the people on a plan. In order for them to make a profit, which is why they are in business in the first place, they need more healtyh people than sick people to enroll.

Last year, not enough healthy people enrolled. The insurance companies realized that with more sick folks then well, they were going to lose money. Profits, for them, are everything. Some insurance companies decided to stop offering insurance in the marketplace. They prefer to have young working people who are pretty healthy and get their insurance through their work as customers. Other insurance companies stayed in the marketplace, but they realized they had to raise rates in order to still make a profit. When they raised rates, the government had to raise its subsidies. Even so, people are seeing their premiums go up.

You cannot be denied health insurance because of a pre-existing medical condition. You cannot be charged more for insurance because of a pre-existing medical condition. Before the Affordable Care Ace AKA Obamacare you could be discriminated against in these areas.

What we need is to get the insurance companies out of the health business. The government should be the single payer. In that way, the government could powerfully negotiate prices for medication and services simply because of the large numbers of people they would be serving. The CEOs of the insurance companies who make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year would be gone and the money saved for patient care.

Hey Cynnyx,

Look around in the Obamacare, you should find an affordable health insurance. I recommend you Kaiser Permanente which it's good for Lupus patients.

I have no children that are still at home so I've never checked that out. I did get this with all my medical problems and I have plenty. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

They cannot increase your premium because of lupus, but they can increase your premium otherwise.
