Hey gang, I am really wanting a tattoo! I have never gotten one, because I could never land on an idea that was a keeper! But since having lupus, I really want to get one that signifies my journey, and that having this disease does not mean my life is over! What did you do to prepare your body for a tat?

My wife has had SLE for many years and has many tattoos, she has a large one across her back with flowers and a humming bird, and lots of butterflies over her legs, and others, she has never had any reaction from her Lupus. The only advise is make 100% sure you want one before you go ahead

My nephrologist told me it's a bad idea for me to get any kind of piercings or tattoos because it takes our skin longer to heal since we have lupus and it might not heal properly or it can get infected easily plus the ink they don't think it'd be safe but once my lupus is stable i plan to get the piercings and tattoos I want lol idc I'm young & apparently wild like my mum and i just like to have a great time & live life and try new things, i don't want lupus to have me living in fear & choosing not to live my life because of it. If you want a tattoo speak with your doctor first to see what they think. I always ask my doctors (psychiatrist, psychologist, primary doctor, specialist etc etc) whenever i want to try anything new just to see their view on it.

Hey Calli I agree with x_cynnnx3 make sure they have new needles and that that sterilize everything..and I also think you shud ask your doc first before you get it bcuz I wanted a tattoo as well and my doc told me I have to wait bcuz of my skin sinsitivity and he didn't want my skin to tear and have excessive bleeding

Hi Calli, I had a tattoo done in March in remembrance of my dad and I just had micro-blading done on my eyebrows to give me eyebrows lol and it does take a bit longer to heal but other then that no problems. Good luck...I am glad that I went and had them done.
