I once had b12 infections for that but it was the hematologist who prescribed it.
Gabapentin is one I take and have been informed can cause low wbc. Also Nsaids can contribute to low WBC and platelets. If you have questions about your medication it is best to discuss it with your provider.
Maranda, which medications have you found to lower your WBC count?
LupusFlorida, I have discussed this with my doctor. She doubled my Plaquenil, but that ultimately didn't help. She wanted to put me on Imuran, but I read the side effects, one of which is lowering WBC count. I started taking Astragalus which helped for a while. Taking garlic is supposed to help boost white count along with taking folate. I am not taking garlic because that can supposedly bring on a lupus flare, but my doctor said that cooking with it shouldn't be a problem. I take a probiotic. I have heard that eating yogurt can help (probiotics), but I am not eating dairy right now. Drinking green tea is supposed to help boost WBC count. Some say to avoid green tea if you have lupus because it can stimulate it, so it gets frustrating when you are trying to do all that you can for your health and get conflicting information. My doctor said that if your WBC count gets down into the ones, that your body might not be able to fight off a fungal infection (just one example), and that you could die from something like that which your body would normally otherwise fight off. She also said that your neutrophils need to be over 50% of you WBC count. Mine recently fell below this. Other than taking Imuran, which seems counterintuitive to me, she doesn't really have any suggestions. Some functional medical professionals say that low WBC count in lupus patients can be due to a reactivated EBV. My doctor tested me for this didn't order the one test that would indicate whether it is currently active and said that if it is, you can't do anything about it anyway.
Thanks, Filipa! My B12 tested fine last time, but maybe I need more. I'll keep that in mind as a possibility.
