Hi. I watched WHAT THE HEALTH when it first dropped. I was pretty much vegetarian for the last few years (yes I cheated with CHEESE, an egg a week in GL recipes but no meat for about 18 months at least). I'd watched a lot of the go vegan movies- but had a hard time doing it.Something about what the health opened my mind up! I've been on a plant based diet for a few weeks now. I know there is a doctor that swears she cured her sle by going plant free (I don't know if this is accurate). Her book/site is called veganmedicaldoctor dot com. Apparently she was mentioned on Forks over Knives (?). Her name is Dr Goldner. She is big into green smoothies (that may take some convincing- not really a big kale chick). But...I feel a bit better. BUT TBH, as a shrink, I have had all my patients (AND myself) using mindfulness meditation for several months- I have found this has helped my CNS symptoms (so far).

IMHO I think many of us believe our md's 100% bc we are terrified. I have had SLE/RA for 23 yrs. In and out of hospitals-joint replacements, stroke DVT's etc. I had a patient w/RA who saw me yrs ago saying he was going plant based to try to cure his RA-tbh, I thought he was nuts. I mean if DIET Was the answer WHY didn't my amazing MD tell me that? Why didn't she know? (Hmm no courses on nutrition and as the movie pointed out many of the GO TO places for Cancer/Diabetes were sponsored by meat /milk folks. Wow...and 1 hour into the movie the mentioned LUPUS. My head spun. Could that patient have been on the right track???

So, my daughter (she has SLE also-22) and I cleaned out our townhome-it's vegan now! SO I can't slip! I don't know about the smoothies-if anyone has some thoughts about whether they help- LET ME KNOW!
The MD who got rid of SLE runs a 3 part FREE webinar series to start you on plant based- I have NO connection to her, just signed up for one that starts on THURSDAY Aug 3rd in the evening.

Good luck to all- I am still on my rituxan (getting infused Friday) so I'm not throwing everything under the bus...but I will try the diet. It has helped a lot of ppl, but I doubt some ppl will support it bc we are a meat eating society. But if it works for you-try it. I'm big on do what is RIGHT FOR YOU!
Namaste,

Karen

Thanks for responding! I have been eating vegan and almost entirely gluten and soy free as well for 2 months and i feel a MASSIVE difference. My energy is finally normal again, Im not feeling swollen and inflamed to the point of buzzing inside and going numb, I havent had any days where i wake up and cant get out of bed that day in the past month, my mouth sores went away, and i can have limited access to sunlight without adverse reactions. Its super hard to eat this way but going back to misery is harder. Good luck to you all, I highly recommend the vegan diet!!

I know it hasn't been long since my last content. But I'm a over a full month into vegan... I've recently in the last week slipped and had wheat and tomatoes.... not one reaction. None at all. Keep going! It's seriously makes a huge difference.

Since i wrote above I did see the first of 3 videos Dr Goldner put out. I've already dropped almost everything (except small amount of oil which I guess I need to drop to be truly Plant Based-not just vegan). She is big into the green shakes-I hope the other 2 videos explain how many/how often to drink shakes. If you can sign up for her webinar it may answer your questions-or you may decide she isn't worth your time. Google her site-you can sign up for free there .

I started yesterday and really have high hopes! 10 years ago my daughter was diagnosed with food allergies & we cut out anything artificial and soy and it triggered remission for me. Unfortunately, she grew out of the allergies & I went back to my "old ways". I just watched "What the Health" on Netflix and that motivated me to make the change again. Any updates from anyone - still going well?
