Anyone have any experience with treating mrsa as well as the prescription Bactrim.
MRSA is a serious antibiotic resistant staph infection. It needs medical attention as soon as possible. Bactrim can be used to treat MRSA but it is not the first choice for lupus patients because it can cause flares. Make sure that your rheumatologist is part of any discussion when it comes to treating MRSA. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatmen... and http://lupus-sle.org/say-no-to-bactrim.html
I was put on clindomyacin too since the bactrim tore up my stomach. So far so good
Clindomyacin, Bactrim both good. Flagyll is probably not used these days. Oral tabs/caps at home, IV in hospital, wounds covered, dressed, drained, lots of handwashing, avoiding sharing of sheets etc. It does live naturally on our skin and in good health is not a problem but if I'll or after surgery it can colonise (set up house) and be hard to shift. Shorter stays in hospital help prevent it taking over.
Sunlight is probably the best thing, as it kills the staph quite quickly, but then of course sunlight is not good for many people with lupus. Flucloxycillin (Flagyll) works well.
@A MyLupusTeam Member yes I've had MRSA five times in a ten month time. The first time they tried Bactrim and I found out that I'm allergic to it so the first two times I had to be hospitalized for a week to get antibiotics in my IV. Yet my youngest daughter caught it and she took the bactrim and it cleared right up. But with me after the first time I caught it, it came back with another bacterial infection. I believe I may have gotten it again I'll be calling my doctor in the morning cause I have the symptoms yet again. Hopefully I can do antibiotics at home if that is what this is again.
