I had a fast heart rate back in July my heart rate was 132 and blood pressure was 160/120. I went to the hospital they did EKG, ECG, cat scan with contrast, ultrasound, blood tests. They found nothing wrong and came to the conclusion it was just lupus. My heart rate and blood pressure is usually within normal range after taking my metoprolol succinate 25mg extended release. I also take 30mg of prednisone and 200mg twice a day of Plaquenil. I had another episode today when I went to see my… read more

You can also have aterial fibulation it is when your heart rate goes up to do with the electrical part of your heart. I can start for no reason and at any time. My husband had it and they had to do a ablation which fixed it, just a day thing. His rate would go up to 200 after going on for a couple of hours he would go to hospital and they would put him on a iv with meds to bring it down, some people are paddled and it will put you back in rthyme, Another thing they told my husband when it got up like that is someone could scare you, sometime sthe shock of something will bring it down, always worth a try. You could also get a high rythem from prednisone I have on and off. I wish you luck and hope it is solved or stops gentle hugs and blessings.

# high heart rate and b/p with lupus
I was almost finished my post and woof---and I could not find it, so here's my second try at it. Has anyone taken your vital signs on your way out of the doctor's office. Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth when I was nursing, with some patient their b/p would be extremely high when first taken. The term for this was "white coat syndrome". Some people do this as a response to being in the doctor's office. They said that they didn't feel nervous, but for some reason their mind and body did. This usually happen every time they went to any doctor. When they actually settled down, their vitals would be much better. I have a high pulse rate most all the time, but my blood pressure is normal. I am so exhausted from having lupus that by the time we get to the doctor's office, I wonder if all the effort of being seen some was worth the trouble. And then the though of ending up in the ER just makes things really ruff!! Get you a small note book to fit in your purse and write down when you have this happen. Include how you are feeling, what you were doing, what you ate the days you feel this way. You keep this up and you may actually see a pattern as to what is going on. Do you have an automatic b/p cuff at home? Set yourself a schedule to take it when you are feeling this way and include that in your note book. You don't have to go around with the b/p cuff glued to your arm, but take it before breakfast, noon and before going to bed and see if there is a pattern. This may be happening due to one of you meds. Any thing changed with that? Also put a copy of all your meds in the diary, including any supplements and vitamins My diary was the reason I got my disability and stop working. The judge approved in my favor that day with no red tape. My diary also helped me as it was good therapy. Now sometimes I will get it and read it. It has taught me to see that lupus was going to be more difficult than anything I had experienced and showed me that I had to fight and not give in to letting it take over my life. At the time I didn't have a concrete diagnosis of lupus, though I knew back then in my mind that I had it. My whole value of things. I realized that I was content in the house we are in and I didn't have my big house and new cars to make me happy. Be content with what you can manage and let God do rest in your life. I have to depend on him to help me thru this disease. I pray that you are feeling better soon.
