I was just wondering if anyone ever had the sensation like your skin is on fire and burning as though you were dragged down the road without seeing a rash? What do you do with it?

Mine doesn’t seem related to direct sun exposure. In fact, the areas I usually get it don’t get sun (behind my knees and my rib cage) and it was quite bothersome during the winter when I was locked inside hiding from the cold

I feel the same way being outside in the sun just for a short period of time, my face feels like it's burning all day long, even in side the house. I still don't understand why.

I used to be a sun worshipper, but always wore sunscreen and a hat, now it feels like acid has been thrown on my face if the sun shines on my face. I have never had a sunburn until I turned 54...and ohhhh my goodness was I miserable! Shortly thereafter is when I was diagnosed, but based on so many other symptoms, and then a positive ANA. It makes me sad to not be able to enjoy the outdoors. I was out, in the shade under an umbrella, with sunscreen, for about 3 hrs today and my face still feels like acid has been thrown on it! No other part of my body feels this way, thank the good Lord, but my face is killing me. I slather coconut oil on it, which gives some relief, but as soon as it absorbs, the sting returns.

I just spoke with an old family friend I reached out to for support. I remembered she had Scleroderma when I was a child and thought her experiences might be helpful. I mentioned this burning skin sensation that I get (which several of us here seem to get) and she said she has the exact same thing. She’s had it since she first developed the Scleroderma...which was in the 80s. She said many of those she’s known over the years thru local support groups had the same odd symptom of skin burning. Aside from an autoimmune problem tho she didn’t know what causes it. I read it can be related to inflammation and the upset of nerve endings. I’ve also seen some say fibro drugs like Cymbalta can help? Anyway...no real new info but interesting to hear yet another person with AI complain about this

I get that full body burn feeling too; it started about two years ago. The first few times it happened I was surprised I didn't have a rash or a fever -- it can be THAT intense. It only happens when I'm in in a flare up and pretty much nothing feels good anyway...just add it to the list. I've mentioned it to the dr. and she doesn't seem very interested in it as a symptom. I haven't found anything that helps yet...it just seems to pass.
