Ill just start off by saying that my grandma has fibromyalgia, and my mom has hypothyroidism. I did not know auto immune diseases ran in families. But my question is When it comes to blood work, does anyone know what speckled pattern is? Mine was 1250 and I know the norm on the paper said 0-40. My Ana was positive, but borderline. Although when I had blood work done at the neurologist my ana was negative. Weird. It was only that pattern that was so high. I don’t know what that means. I do have a… read more
Different ANA patterns suggest different AI diseases. Speckled I believe is the least specific pattern and can be found in those with mixed connective tissue disease, Sjögrens, RA and thyroid problems & possibly more. I believe it’s also the pattern most frequently seen in healthy people (those who test positive for ANA but don’t have a serious autoimmune illness). I believe rim pattern and homogeneous are the 2 most closely linked to Lupus. Another indicates Scleroderma as the main suspect.
Some doctors don’t consider patterns because they are subject to interpretation. At least my dr doesn’t consider pattern.
They should be doing more specifics follow up tests based on your postive ANA to see if there are more indicators
My ANA was 1:1280 with a speckled pattern too. If you google a table of ' ana patterns ' then it'll better explain them. Still trying to figure out all of this too !
I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and Sjogrens. After a few years of labs all of a sudden mine came back with a speckled pattern. My doctor said I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. He ran the labs a few months later and again it came back the same. Many times you can have more than one autoimmune disease which I see more often than not. I have a lot of pain as I also have Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. I have peripheral neuropathy as well. Pain is very tiresome also. As I got older the tests showed more and more. Autoimmune diseases can cause alot of pain. Fibromyalgia can cause a lot of pain. Sending hugs and prayers. I find reading on this site very helpful. I love to listen to music and reading as try to distract my mind. I rest when I need to rest. We are all different in what works for us. Some find taking a bath with Epsom salts works for them to help with the pain. I love this site and find it very helpful. I feel we know our own bodies better than anyone else. I always say no two of us on here are alike but we all seem to have a lot in common. Hugs and prayers.
I also had a positive ANA with a speckled patter as well with a titre of 1:320...that’s most recent. In the past I had a negative and positive as well with different ratios and one of them included a ratio of 1:80. To my understanding, the ANA identifies if you have any antibodies in the body attacking different parts of the body to my understanding. I’m still new to all of this as I was just dx with lupus.
