I was just diagnosed with osteoporosis of my lumbar spine by dexascan. T score -2.5. My hips show osteopenia at -1.0. I am a little worried about these drugs for osteoporosis as I have read how people fracture when on them or develop AVN of jaw. I already have AVN or both hips and left knee. Thanks a lot.
I am doing some research. I had taken Fosamax about 20 years ago for a short time. My GYN said he would not take that drug because we do not know the half life of it. He recommended Actonel. I stopped taking the drug and later my rheumatologist said he did not want me to take it because we don't know the half life of the drug. I had read on another site that Prolia once stopped was causing fractures in the vertebra. It just does not seem right to take an injection twice a year for your bones.
Hoping more will come in on the conversation.
thanks a lot for your comment.
I haven't, but I did take Fosamax and wish I hadn't. It ruined my teeth. My dentist ask if I took any. They had me sign a paper that if my jaw bone fractured it was not their fault. I improved my bone density by walking. Make sure they do blood work to make sure you have enough calcium. I didn't and the drugs leached the calcium from my teeth. The two drugs may not work alike but I would recommend you do research before taking it.
Thank you for your response Mosie. How long have you been on Prolia? How well has it been on increasing your bone density? I frequent the Regenexx site and saw that once taken off the drug research is showing vertebral fractures can occur.
I get my 2 Prolia injections yearly. I am prone to dizziness, so I fall often. So far only 1 fractured rib, & that was after a tumble down the stairs.
