Has anyonr had gastric bypass surgery while having lupus? I meet with the surgon nect week.
@A MyLupusTeam Member I wouldn't do it, especially if your body is fighting to stay healthy with your kidneys. I was say no extra stress on the body. But if you decide to I pray for the best. Your Dr is going to approve it?
My gp suggested gastric bypass to me a few years ago, after already being diagnosed with Lupus sle, I made an appointment with my Lupus Specialist and he said, no way would he agree that I should have the surgery, his concerns were, a lengthy healing process , dehydration and mostly contracting an infection. I would highly recommend that you speak to your specialist first before going ahead with the surgery.
What is your kidney function? GFR? Creatinine? I agree with butterfly luv and wouldn't do it and would actually be surprised that your doctor will clear you. I just had surgery for my hip and needed clearance from my rheumatolgist and PCP. All of my lupus numbers were in remission so I was cleared. And even with this my doctor is concerned what the surgery might do to my lupus.
What is the plan of action for your kidneys if they are not improving?
