When I started all of my rheumatology journey, I was tested for Ankylosing Spondylitis because of hip pain. Because I didn't have the genetic marker or signs of fusion, I ended up on the Lupus track. I recently had pain in my lower back and hips and went for some x-rays that showed mild facet joint hypertrophy (bony enlargement of the joint). My rheum says she'll go over it with me at my next appointment in March, but seems unconcerned. I'm just wondering whether this is something do with lupus… read more

I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis last spring. It does go along with lupus sometimes. I didn't know what was happening at the time- it felt like I broke something in my right knee- I could barely walk on it. The doctor could see the swelling and inflammation on the x-rays, as well as the "lumps on the outer aspect of both of my knees. It has gotten much better with prednisone, rest, and my lupus meds. It was so bad a few months ago I could barely walk at all- used a cane and had a temporary disabled placard so I could get around.
the thing with lupus is that there is always "something going on somewhere".

I am newly diagnosed with Ankolosing Spondylitis. I start my first Remicaid injections on dec 3. I take cymbals, imuran, and plaquenil. I also use tramadol and cannabis for pain and anxiety control.I also have lupus, auto immune hepatitis, Fibromialgia, lymphedema, and osteoarthritis. Hoping these meds help

Are you HLA-B27 positive?
They thought AS might be my problem since my pain mostly started in my hips and left knee. Now my back pain is worse and they have seen "degenerative changes" in my spine, but since the genetic marker isn't there (which is 90% marker- high yes but not 100%) they are kind of refusing to consider it as an option. I'm a bit annoyed and frustrated because I never received a full lupus dx and since my x-rays are showing spine changes now I wonder if this hasn't been the problem the whole time.
