I have SLE and have decided to get a hysterectomy. I am curious if anyone else on here has had the procedure.
I am especially interested to hear from those that had it done post-Lupus diagnosis and those that had it done before the age of 40.
I am looking for tips, advice, results (how did it go), mostly just looking for someone with a shared experience to chat with.
Oh and I was home the following day. Dont recommend that though. Get rest in hospital if you can for at least a night or two
Ive had blood tests for thyroid function as I had my thyroid removed 2 yrs ago and am on thyroxine daily. I think lupus has played a part in these organs being damaged.
Hi there! I am 45 but I had a hysterectomy 10 weeks ago and diagnosed with Lupus 10 years ago. Happy to answer any questions. My hysterectomy was for constant bleeding for over 12 mths due to adenomysis and previous endometriosis. I can tell you the first 2 weeks post op were extremely rough on me with a huge flare up and obvious pain etc but I honestly think lupus has settled a lot since Ive had the surgery.
I had a hysterectomy at the age of 34. This was long before I was diagnosed with lupus, although I suspect that lupus might have had something to do with my problems. This was 26 years ago, so things have changed a lot with surgery. I had major surgery with mine and it was a very long time before I felt like a functioning person again. A friend of mine just had surgery and she got to go home the same day and is functioning fine (she doesn't have lupus) but it sure was a lot easier for her than it was for me. I don't know why you are considering surgery, but I would not do it unless dr. says you need to. I got a second opinion when I was told I needed hysterectomy.
Yes, being tired was the one thing I remember most. For me, I think some of the tiredness was partially due to the anesthesia and pain meds. I slept a lot for the first few day afterwards. I did get sick from the anesthesia and she gave me anti-nausea pills which worked well. Other than that, I just took it easy for a few weeks because I didn't want to break any of the stitches.
