when you guys first got Lupus, did you ever lose any weight? before this unknown autoimmune disease, i weighed 118 pounds. i now weigh 104. i’ve lost 14 pounds since November so i was just wondering if this is common? i changed up my diet so that could have something to do with it but i know most of it is because of this unknown autoimmune disease

I had terrible weight loss, total of about 12 lbs. off of already smaller/slim frame. Doctors blamed it on diet so I went for nutrition/ diet consult and that was a joke, told to increase caloric intake, advised to eat crappy processed junk food. I continued to eat what sounded good, what I tolerated and nutritious food. Some days I would be in tears because everything looked gross and nothing seem appealing to eat, like I would not throw up. Appetite did do some weird things because normally I am always hungry and eat food that is available. Getting my nutrition mineral and vitamin levels back to normal helped stop crazy weight loss, particularly iron level and anemia. Having good electrolyte balance help fluid shift as well. The weight loss felt more like muscle and water loss, because I did not feel fit or strong while losing weight, just more fatigued and weak. Low dose prednisone caused a little fluid retention and weight gain but did not have effect on my overall weight loss at the beginning of this diagnosis.

I also lost weight. What helped the most was going to the gym, I was always hungry.

I've loss 22 lbs. 10 was loss over 3 months and 12 was loss over a 1 month period due to a severe flare. So far I've gained 4 lbs back and am waiting for labs to consider a new medication regimen. I was just officially diagnosed with Lupus after a 5 year undifferentiated connective tissue disease diagnosis.
