Strange question! But I have a hair appointment thursday to get some highlights. I know my skin may be more sensitive to the bleach but I was curious about the hair loss? Since being on my medication, my hair loss has decreased tremendously and my hair is healthy. Has anyone had any problems with this or does anyone get their hair highlighted regularly with no issues?

I have had highlights and color without any direct problems with them. However, I have also had to go bald 3 times in the last 18 years because when I have a severe flare, my hair starts to fall out.

Each person is truly an individual when it comes to hair treatment. Each time my hair has grown back, it has been a different texture and I have had to adjust to that. I had a wonderful hair stylist who knew my situation and took extra good care of me, my skin, and my hair. Hopefully, your stylist can do the same!!!

I’m with WJade with this, any chemical additives to your hair/scalp can trigger a flare. I use a completely natural color now, called Naturcolor and if I can’t get that I use a semi-permanent hair color a shade or two lighter if I want highlights, Clairol Natural Instincts.

No matter which way you look at it, adding chemicals to your body in any form just isn’t conducive to deflecting flare ups.

Just make sure you are not in active flare. I got my tenacious grey roots done in salon thinking the salon formula would stick around longer than Loreal boxed color I used. I had no scalp sores at the time, but after salon color was applied and I sat there for 10min, my scalp was on fire and inflammed for weeks afterward. It kick started lupus scalp flare again.just as long as highlights aren't directly on your scalp.
