I know logically that I have lupus and that it's been severe and dangerous in the past, but lately I've been in this state of 'young and invincible' to some extent--while somehow also being terrified of little pains and symptoms that come up randomly, then going straight back to denial when it resolves. I'm worried about how this mindset and my behavior might affect me down the road. Any advice on how to mentally balance being a generally healthy (currently) young adult and enjoying life while… read more
Good for you. Sometimes you just have to say oh well. I went for a motorcyle ride today. Hot and sunny. Had to cut the day short b/c started feeling bad but that's ok. I enjoyed it.
I had denial my first 2 years of diagnosis my flares were excruciating but when I was stable it almost felt like it was a dream I was in that much because prior to getting diagnosed I was a healthy athletic young. It took me a good while to process my diagnosis it took me getting beat up a bit my lupus, husband's support, marital therapy, and individual therapy to get over that denial.
I here you loud and clear, being in denial can hurt, in my head due to remission I felt great and didn't follow up on doctors visit, just kept working and thought about my financial situation, now my lupus is totally active and experienced over 20 pounds wait loss and uncomfortable emotional issues now I'm back on doctors visits more than I want, so enjoy your good days but stay focused on limiting your activities
Thank you everyone! GinaS, i love your methods for balance..seems like with categorizing 'non-negotiables' and 'flexible' activities, i may feel less black and white about it (and like I'm 'missing out' on whatever it may be) while being able to take care of things preventatively. Honestly just the feedback that others have similar struggles makes me feel like I'm not alone in this aspect of the illness. Lots of love to all of you 💜
Praying for you.
