Has anyone been told you have all the symptoms for lupus but your blood work (other than the positive ana test) didnt confirm it? I just got told by my rheumatologist that i have all the symptoms of lupus but my test results are not high enough. I was put on plaquenil and told to come back in two months to get new tests and a follow up. Has this happened to anyone on their first appointment? Any encouragement or help will be appreciated.

Lots of hugs to you, it’s very frustrating. Over 9 years I had seen 11 Drs all saying the same thing. Finally at the peak of a flare all my labs matched my symptoms. It can take a while but have faith!

Yes, i was in the same exact position. I recently had a new finding in a more extensive blood panel that confirmed lupus, as well as a higher ANA, but it took about 2 years for anything new to show in my blood. I just started plaquenil about 4 months ago with the new lab results, hard to say if i see a difference though. In some ways i do, in other ways I'm still the same.

Did you have supporting labs, other than ANA, before you started the Plaquenil? Depending on how long you were on the Plaquenil, it may have made a difference. The symptoms of lupus are called vague symptoms, because they can also be the same symptoms in multiple other disorders.

I also have an oddball Lupus but not quite Lupus diagnosis. Positive ANA & positive (63) dsANA...but after some months of Plaquenil my dsANA is normal. I also do not meet enough Lupus signs/symptoms to confirm Lupus (and no internal organ involvement for SLE) - but I do have a very positive C3 (but normal C4)... so the Vasculitis seems to be my biggest nemisis. I had a biopsy on my feet that determined "possible Lupus" but was also borderline. I do have UC (for 20 years now) which was in a major flare when the Lupus showed up - so my exact diagnosis is indeterminate. I understand it can often take years. I'm doing ok on my meds and just pray and try to stay positive and am continually making lifestyle and diet changes to be as healthy as possible. Hang in there and be prepared for some ups and downs and lots of labs and bloodwork. It's quite a rollercoaster at times but the disease doesn't have to take you for the ride. I have found destressers to help me and enjoy long salt/oil baths to relax. Prayer is my go to and never fails me as well. God bless you and my prayers to you!

Okay. At least he is believing something is going on. Sounds like you found someone who is listening to you. Many on this forum have been in similar situations and were just dismissed.
