I've never had so many problems with my teeth until now. My fillings actually crumble, teeth chip, and any more teeth are becoming more sensitive. Just wondering if more people are going through this.
Lupus can manifest itself in the oral cavity. About 25% of lupus patients develop oral lesions such as ulcers and redness. Xerostomia (dry mouth), candidiasis (thrush) and periodontal disease can also hapoen w lupus patiebts even though thr direst association has not proven yet. As lenaB mentioned earlier, dry mouth due to medications or lupus/sjogrens can wreak havoc on your teeth. You have to be extra diligent with your oral hygiene. Brush and floss after every meal and keep water with you at all times. Try to cut out any sugar drinks. Without saliva to cleanse your mouth, cavities can form quickly causing old fillings to fail and teeth to break. Also, you are more prone to gingivitis. Since lupus is an inflammatory disease, it can manifest in the inflammation of your gums.
Do you feel like you are grinding? Stress can make us clench anf grinding can cause teeth to break.
In my opinion, ths best thing to do is to be meticulous with your oral hygiene, have your teeth cleaned a minimum of two times a year, and drink plenty of water. A good dental cleaning can lower your CRP levels. Also, ask your dentist of he or she sees signs of grinding or periodontal disease.
As for the sensitivity, that can br due to grinding or recession. I would try prevident sensitive toothpaste. You can get it from your dentist. Hope this helps
Thank you all for the information. I go to the dentist regularly. When I have a mishap with a tooth, I immediately call and make an appointment with the dentist to get the issue fixed. The office knows of my condition and fits me in asap.I buy all the special toothpaste, mouthrinse, mouthwash, and follow everything that he instructs me to do. This last episode I had he mentioned that it's the medicine that's contributing to the issues. He just told me that he, himself, too has lupus. Thankfully I don't drink sugary drinks and drink a lot of water and have a dentist that I have.
Maybe one of our two dentists can chime in on this.
Thanks for all the tips
My problems all started with my teeth. I was having horrible pain one one side of my mouth for months. After 6 months of trying different things I decided to have the teeth bothering me pulled out and it was like an instant relief. My dentist said my teeth were crumbling when she was taking them out.
