I have been losing A LOT of hair. Luckily I had a lot of hair to begin with, but in the past year I have lost a substantial amount. I just got some new lab work back and it turns out I was very vitamin C deficient. My doctor said this could be a huge reason why I have been losing so much of my hair. Starting today I am going to be taking a vitamin c supplement daily and I'm hoping it'll show a lot of improvement. I've had some decent luck with controlling certain symptoms with taking specific daily vitamins. In general, I guess vitamin C is supposed to be very good for hair and skin health along with helping joint pain. Maybe it is worth asking your doc about? Signs of Vitamin C deficiency include bleeding gums, hair loss, joint pain, weight gain, easy bruising, slow healing wounds, dry damaged skin, bright red skin follicles, etc.

I had alopecia (due to lupus) and developed some bald spots. Dermatologist gave me some cortisone shots in the spots and it grew right back 😊.

Yes, people with lupus who experience severe hair loss often seek medical advice. According to the knowledge base, it is important to treat lupus first, and once the disease is under control, address hair loss. Treatments for hair loss caused by lupus include:

- Topical steroids and oral medications: These can help stop the spread of discoid lesions.
- Prescription and over-the-counter medications: A doctor may prescribe the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) to address symptoms of lupus, including hair loss.
- Vitamins and supplements: Some MyLupusTeam members have found success with biotin, fish oil, vitamin D, and other supplements.
- Cosmetic techniques: Wearing head coverings, changing hairstyles, or using hair extensions or wigs.

Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new treatments.

Don’t let drs have the final answer. You can try many things. Castor oil, biotin pills, go to amazon and research the products. I lost 1/3 of my hair and it’s better now. Not perfect but biotin pills and shampoo did help.
