We want to keep you updated on the latest news impacting access to hydroxychloroquine (Plauqenil) and chloroquine for people with lupus amid the coronavirus pandemic. Members expressed deep concern about accessing hydroxychloroquine after the FDA's emergency authorization for COVID-19 treatment, sharing fears of medication shortages and the stress of calling multiple pharmacies to fill prescriptions. Several members described their personal dependence on the drug, explaining how it keeps their lupus in remission, prevents blistering and hives in sunlight, and maintains their quality of life, with many worried about flaring without it. A recurring theme was frustration with the burden placed on patients to hunt for their medications during an already stressful time, balanced with cautious hope that the Lupus Foundation's advocacy and increased production would protect access for those who rely on it long-term.

Iam on 200mg. of Plaquenil a day, twice a day,I had to get my prescription filled on the 25th of March, and my drugstore didn't have any. I had to call all over to other drugstores, I found a CVS in Dallas Pennsylvania, and I got my prescription refilled for another month. So if you run out, your drugstore will wire over your script to another drugstore if you can find one that has enough Plaquenil to fill your script. God bless you all, and everyone just hang in there, we will get through this.

I have been using this drug for a long time. My Lupus is on remission thanks to Plaquenil. I can't go with out it. The Lupus Foundation of America. And the Lupus Research Center are negotiating with the Government and Companies that make this drug to make sure that people with Lupus, RA and other chronic illnesses are able to get their Plaquenil for the same price we were getting our meds before COVID-19

I am getting very confused as to why us as patients have to hunt down a pharmacy for our meds when the government is putting us in this position to not continue the quality of life that we get with hydroxychloroquine. I feel it should be the pharmacys that the scripts go to. We are stressed enough because this is going on and now add more stress to us that make us flare up... I am beside myself with this whole ass backwards process.
