@A MyLupusTeam Member It is a common symptom of SLE. There are a number of reasons for it. The one you need to keep track of is if tremendous weakness accompanies it. This may indicate your SLE has some auto-antibody component and you need better control of the disease.

Most of the other reasons have already been mentioned, depending on the constellation of muscle pain it can be SLE related inflammation and/or fibromyalsia. As to SLE being classified mainly as a joint disease, this disease critiera is misleading. True SLE will come with swollen and painful joints. It is a primary symptom a doctor will look at first to get a read on activity, but the joint pain and swelling is not the singular symptom in the group of diagnositic criteria, it is only a primary symptom among several.

Things that can help decrease the pain are epsom salt baths, oral magnesium, eating no sugar (including fruits and high sugar vegetables and all grains), fish oils (start with a low and increase until you find the end of GI tolerance and them go back to where your GI tolerates it), consuming marine collegan (verify source), and staying hydrated at all times. If straight water starts to cause acid reflux switch to Pellegrino. In addition, use lotions and sunscreens that are non-toxic, mainly organic and low scent. If you can’t afford that, organic coconut oil works well. Be careful using Essential Oils. It is difficult to get truely pure oils, and harder to find a trained EO person who can identify purity be scent, color and viscosity.

If it is Fibromyalsia related you will need to work with a pychiatrist who understands how to treat neuropathic/brain dysfunction pain syndromes. Also, EMDR and LENS neurofeedback is an effective method of pain management.

Hope that gives you something to go on.

Praying. 💜

Most of the muscle ache is from inflammation.
