Hi, I would like to know how you handled the situation when you first told your partner about Lupus. And how he/she reacted.
Also, do you expose having Lupus at the beginning? I don‘t feel confident enough with Lupus to date because I don‘t know what to say when I have a flare up and can’t move in pain. Don‘t want to be a burden for anybody. But on the other hand I can‘t hide all the time at home 😔

When I was first diagnosed with Lupus May 4 of this year, I didn’t tell anyone but my husband and two close friends. I just needed time to process the diagnosis. I joined here almost immediately. I told family members the second week. I think it is probably whatever you are comfortable with.

My husband was supportive with the diagnosis and he is trying to be supportive with me. He joined here too, he says to learn more about Lupus.
Honey, just be yourself and date if you feel like it, but do explain you have Lupus that way if you have a flare and can’t go he will know why and hopefully understand. If he doesn’t understand he wasn’t the one for you. You are in my prayers. Same for friends. I hope you have family that support you and hold up your arms in the time of flares. That will mean a lot.

God bless,

She's right. Mine lived the worst part with me and didn't miss a thing. He had the opportunity to leave. He chose to stay and fight it with me. But you won't know if you have a Guardian as I do until you give them the chance to see if they can handle it.

I told my husband as soon as we started dating. Its better to say something before things get serious because lupus is a lot for people to deal with and they should know what they r getting themselves inro and whether they can and want to handle

Most people don’t take dating all that seriously to them it’s just a game then they get bored and move on!!!

But there will be one person who will stick around eventually and if that person is really into you will notice that you are not feeling good a lot of times and tries to be there for you during those moments and might start to ask questions then you will know it’s the right time or not to let that person know!!!

So for now I wouldn’t worry so much about telling someone right away just enjoy meeting new people and have a little fun!!!

How the saying goes you will you will kiss a lot of frogs before you find your Prince!!! LOL

I was married before I was formally diagnosed so IDK. I did have several health issues which I was aware of at the time that turned out to be part of my Lupus “gift” , I just did not know it yet. I feel like that is pretty personal information and I would not broadcast it until the relationship progressed to the point that it could be serious- but that’s just me. I really feel like it is a personal choice how much and how soon you choose to share the info, as well as how much you choose to share.
