Hi TaraShea, unfortunately this is one of the lupus flare symptoms. Normally it can regrow when your lupus is brought under control. However if you have discoid lupus as I do it generally is permanent. This is when the scars left by discoid leave bald areas where the hair does not grow back. It can also happen with certain medication used to treat lupus, such as steroids. In those cases the hair usually grows back once those medications is stopped. Lupus is known to cause hair on the scalp to be quite fragile. So be careful when washing your hair, using heated tools such as hairdryers and brushing. Use sensitive hair products and shampoos like the baby ones. Avoid chemical treatments like dying the hair. Also if platting your hair use loose plats, as pulling the hair can also cause hair loss. When outside protect your hair from the UV Rays by wearing a hat. This includes cloudy mornings as UV Rays are not blocked by the clouds.
Hope that this was able to help.
Hair loss is a common symptom in lupus. It can be generalized thinning, patchy loss or dramatic, falling out in clumps. I have found taking Biotin, a B vitamin, has helped my hair loss a lot. I take 5000 units a day. It’s OTC and helps your fingernails strengthen as well.
I take biotin as well. It took about 6 months before I started noticing a difference.
Mine is quite thin as well. The excessive thinning comes and goes. In-between I see new hair popping up...then the cycle starts again. Not sure who sheds more...myself or my German shepherd 🤔
Yes it is. Try buying some prroducts from a hair salon or beauty supply for hair loss they have some good ones and some garlic shampoo will helo reduce hair loss.
