I cut mine in half if I am taking one pill only. One in the morning and around 3pm I take the other half. Helps with stomach ache.

I was on plaquinil for 10 years. I would get nauseous if i did not eat with it. I never had issues with my tongue. I did have to stop taking it due to eye damage. I was not getting the vision field testing as i was supposed to. Luckily my eye dr caught it early. Word of warning, if the eye dr wants you to have vision field testing, dont blow it off. Not sure i was of any help with your issue but thought I would let everyone know how important the vision field testing is while on the subject of plaquinil.

I was started on Folic acid 1000mcg for mouth sores and ulcers and it seems to help a lot.

Try not to eat salt!! I have noticed in the past, I love potato chips and immediately after eating I get the burning tongue on the tip, it is bright red. I rinse it out with warm water a few times, I usually don't have salt in my diet!

I have taken Plaquenil and never had either experience. One of my 'tricks' to avoid aftertaste from my meds (especially prednisone) is to take them in between my last bites of food. That immediately kills the taste.
