Yes, dry eyes due to secondary Sjogren's are very common. Artificial tears help, and see your ophthalmologist for more pointers.
I have Shogrens , Renauds, Fibromyalgia as well as SLE. My doctor said it’s not uncommon to have these when dealing with Lupus as long as I have been. The thing with Plaquenil is that it does build toxicity in the eyes. Regular Plaquenil eye exams is necessarily especially if you have been taking it longer than 10 years. I use Xiidra and another eye moisturizer drops twice a day for my eyes. I also have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and the Oncologist wants me to take Tamoxifen which is not recommended when taking Plaquenil because it will cause the toxicity to the eyes 5x faster…I’m not willing to stop the Plaquenil so I’m having a double mastectomy and will revisit with the oncologist after surgery is healed…so many things to have to watch with this Lupus.
Thank you everyone!! I am so glad I am not alone anymore.
Recently, some of the over the counted eye ointments have been reported to carry a bacteria. Do some research b4 trying one.
Over-the-counter, Systane nighttime ointment per my ophthalmologist helps me greatly.
