I am still in the diagnosis process and finally had my labs come back. My ana is 180, I am anemic, my complements were in the normal range but just barely, ena negative and anti dsdna was positive and flagged hi but in the indeterminate range it said. I have a wait to see the rheumatologist. I find this process stressful as I am sure many do. I am very unwell and seeking answers. Thank you!
The anti-ds DNA is very specific for lupus and not seen with other autoimmune diseases. It's good you're borderline and should see rheum, but if you have a long wait and haven't had a urinalysis and urine protein/creatinine, it's worth talking to your pcp to exclude kidney issues. Good luck and stay calm--stress is so bad for us. You can deal with whatever it is, as we all are doing. I've had lupus for nearly 40 years and am a pro!😃
@A MyLupusTeam Member Depends on the scale the lab uses... when mine was tested it was though quest and I believe a result of 6 was considered Indeterminate.
My results at that time were 20. The scale indicated anything over 10 was a positive result. That said, diagnosis is not based strictly on this lab result alone. There's like 11 different things they look at to evaluate. If you have 4 of the 11 and they have rules out other potential medical causes, that is how they consider a diagnosis.
If I recall for anti-dsDNA the criteria is as follows: Anti-dsDNA antibody level above laboratory reference range (or >2-fold the reference range if tested by ELISA) So while your result is at 6, it may still be considered in part of your overall diagnostic review.
Anti-dsDNA is one of the signoficant markers associated with Lupus SLE. It's one part of data that gets evaluated along with your symptoms and medical history to determine a diagnosis. There are other autoimmune conditions that also present with a presence of Anti-dsDNA.
I know it's frustrating to wait for answers.
I tested positive for this antibody when I was first diagnosed along with anti-cardiolipin antibodies. I also have anti-TPO (Hashimoto's). The Anti-dsDNA is what sealed my diagnosis basically.
@A MyLupusTeam Member. It doesn’t let me screen shot the whole lab for some reason which is annoying. It has slightly high flagged mchc and mch and ana 180 c3 1.17 c4.15 and this. I am also rf positive. Thank you very much. I am in a lot of pain with my hands and feet and exhaustion. I am unable to work as my job is very physical and I have to let him know and I am nervous about that. I am getting very sad as my quality of like of declining. I have osteoarthritis since 21 which is progressing and now I have a Morton’s neuroma in my foot. The tendons in my right hand feel hard and stiff and they are pulling my hand inward. My mcp knuckles are swollen and my hands and feet keep turning blueish. I really appreciate your help!
The dsDNA normal ranges vary between labs, so if you can post that along with your result, Robyn, I'll be glad to take a look. The 11 criteria have been revised, and an updated 2019 list of diagnostic criteria from ACR have been established. They're a lot more complicated but similar to the previous ones in terms of the major criteria.
