Members shared deeply divided perspectives on whether they still mask up in large crowds, with many immunocompromised individuals describing continued masking as essential protection against COVID and other infections, while others have stopped entirely due to skin issues, personal choice, or a desire to build natural immunity. Several members recounted hard-earned lessons from catching COVID despite vaccinations, including severe breathing difficulties, high fevers, and prolonged illness, which reinforced their commitment to masking in crowded or indoor spaces to avoid triggering worsened lupus symptoms or lung complications. A recurring theme was the tension between personal comfort, medical necessity, and social pressure, with many emphasizing that protecting one's health matters more than what others think or do.

I got covid even with covid vaccine and booster. I don't care if anything has been proven or not proven I'm still wearing my mask. My wbc is critically low from anti rejection meds so I cannot take the risk of catching anything. Personally I feel it's people's preference and when someone ask why I wear a mask I simply tell them it helps me mind my business.

To be honest, I never really masked up even when it was mandated. There was never proof it worked except the n95 masks. I never really got Covid and when I did, it was nothing. The flu was ten times worse the the stupid vaccination gave me a stroke. I think it was way more overplayed than it was and yes, it was a horrible I’ll was but so is everything when it first comes out. I believe the hydroxychloroquine keeps me from getting it really bad. Just my opinion and my thoughts.

I only masked when it was required. The heat and friction generated by the mask itself caused by the very most irritable skin on my entire being to erupt into long lasting and hard to control rash. I always do avoid large crowds and am fortunate to live in the country.
I think the whiplash of the masking frenzy has actually led to lowered immune responses.
Know what your comfort zone is, if you need a mask, please wear it.
Try to protect others by staying in if you are ill. Wash your hands. Cover your coughs and sneezes and do not allow obviously sick people to get in your personal space.

I am masking in public spaces where there are lots of people. People with Lupus get extra-sick from Covid and many of us are immune-suppressed from Lupus drugs. Better safe than sorry…

@A MyLupusTeam Member I always wear my mask and it’s not something I’m going to change. I have lesions in lungs from Lupus and I already struggle to breathe. I can’t get Covid as it probably wouldn’t be a good outcome. Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Protect your health. More viruses are coming and Covid constantly mutates.
