Hello, I was diagnosed with lupus in 2019. I had my first biopsy in April of 2019. I was treated with cellcept for 18 months and was then in remission. @islandstar--You are wise to abstain from alcohol, as it truly is a toxin to our bodies. Kidney disease specifically resulting from alcohol isn't described, but it can definitely increase our blood pressure which when severe, damages the kidneys.
I was also diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis and for many years it was in remission. It was always in the back of my mind, it may return and it did. I was very careful to obstain from any alcohol because, i worried about the damage i might potentially cause to an already damaged kidney
It's VERY unlikely that the alcohol caused the issue, but with the meds we have to take and the fact that lupus can affect our livers, it's wise to steer clear. A rare glass of wine or champagne at a wedding shouldn't be a big deal, but as a physician and lupus patient, I avoid it because it's safest for our health.
Don't feel like you caused your flare, though, please! You don't need that added stress. Just give yourself plenty of TLC and rest, rest, rest!
