Hi Jerry. I have itching pretty much all over, too, but do not have renal involvement with my SLE as of now. Given that you do have this history, there is a chance that your itching may be kidney related. Uremic Pruritis and Uremic Frost are two terms that I'd like you to Google to learn about this as it may may be a concern for you. You need to talk with your doctor. Your itching may not be related to this at all, but it could be a sign that the kidney disease is worsening and you want to address this as soon as possible. God bless!

Yes, many people with lupus experience bad itching. Itchy skin, or pruritus, is a common symptom of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This itching can sometimes be seen on the skin's surface in the form of hives, which appear in about 10 percent of people with lupus. These hives usually last more than one day and are not typically caused by usual factors like allergies or infections. They are produced from the release of a chemical called histamine when the body identifies a threat.

For managing itchy skin, some MyLupusTeam members have shared their strategies:
- Taking over-the-counter antihistamines like cetirizine (Zyrtec).
- Washing the area with mild soap, patting it dry, and applying hydrocortisone cream.
- Using ice bags directly on the skin to relieve itching and burning.
- Applying prescription creams like triamcinolone.

If you have severe itching, it's important to discuss it with your doctor, especially considering your kidney condition, to ensure safe and effective treatment options.
