Dr. Donald Thomas author of the Lupus Encyclopedia writes in detail about whether lupus is hereditary in his blog. Here's the article below.

Yes it is my mom dad and stepsister and my sister from my mom has it too.
You all are bless at age 15 they frozen my eggs so I could have kids in the 80 it was known yet and I was so scared to have kids cause of lupus.
Now it so much research and women having children with lupus
I have lupus and I had an Aunt on my biological Fathers side of family that was very sick and always in pain like I am but she was never diagnosed with lupus. Back then Drs were very hesitant to label people with lupus..
My niece has Lupus but her mother doesn,t and no know person in the family has Lupus?
I don't know if you saw my answer but my mother had Lupus, I have it and one of my daughters does as well. By the way I live down at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Yes thanks Juliejewels and Henry.
In my personal world.
Autoimmune disorders run in our family our both sides.
My mums mum had Amaloid.
My mother had celiac disease and border line lupus. My cousin has lupus like me.
My daughter has the predisposed gene. But like Juliejewels said doesn’t mean she will get lupus if nothing triggers it. Through me tho she knows what not to do to avoid being triggered.
She has said lately tho that if in the sun too long she becomes very ill and fatigue and if over stressed.
Which is exactly how I react to both. So she tries to avoid both as much as possible.
Because of our family history my doctor feels it’s very genetic in our family.
The trial I hope to start next month have taken a blood sample from me especially for a lupus DNA data base.
If by chance through this trial they find the treatment works for me in whatever dosage etc. it will be recorded.
If any of my future generations happen to be unfortunate to get lupus they will be able to look up what worked for me and that child or grandchild or great grandchild will receive the same treatment immediately knowing it will work for them too. Hopefully in a perfect world it will stop it before it starts. They will also use my blood for testing to see if they can expand it to help others as well.
Of course it’s not called trial for nothing so none of us medical or otherwise will know for sure until time passes. I’m giving it a go anyway. It’s just a small amount of hope.☺️💜
