My issue is that for a very long time my hemoglobin have been very low. I was taking iron pills but it didn,t serm to have helped.
Yes! My daughter started with a hemoglobin of 4.6!!!! Yes, that's right! Originally she was diagnosed with Hemolytic Anemia and received 8 units of blood over a 6 month period. She got so sick that she experienced seizures, terrible rash on face, ears, scalp, in mouth and nose even! And incredible pain where you couldn't even gently tap her. That's when the rheumatologist finally said Lupus for certain. She has since been treating with Plaquenil and Cellcept. She tried Rituxan IV but developed chest pain. Her rheumatologist wasn't giving up and she has been receiving Saphnelo now for 8 months with a fabulous response! Her last hemoglobin was 12.1!!!! WOOOHOOO... hope this helps. 💖
@Jacque3--You're right, prednisone--especially higher doses--can cause high WBCs.
Hi Niranja. Thank you. I was tested and it came back showung i am iron deficient and that is why my doctor gad put me on iron pills. When it comes to my health, i don,t mess around with it.
@A MyLupusTeam Member, please ensure you are iron deficient, as our anemia is usually related to chronic inflammation, which suppresses blood production. Taking iron unnecessarily can damage our organs, so please talk with your doctor.
@StaciP-- Plaquenil doesn't lower WBC, FYI, and it's not an immunosuppressant. You're right that Benlysta can rarely do this, but it's often due to our disease.
I hope you're all doing well lately!
