My Opthalmologist doesn’t seem to be able to help me. When reading, my eyesight just fades away until I can’t see much of anything. I can only read on an ebook or large print. Eyes hurt all the time.

For managing dry eyes due to Sjögren’s syndrome, there are several options beyond Plaquenil, prescription eye drops, loteprednol, and heated moisture masks:

For managing dry eyes due to Sjögren’s syndrome, there are several options beyond Plaquenil, prescription eye drops, loteprednol, and heated moisture masks:

- Artificial Tears: Use artificial tears in liquid or gel form to increase moisture and relieve discomfort.
- Cyclosporine Ophthalmic Drops: Medications like Restasis or Cequa can help increase tear production.
- Topical Steroids or Antibiotics: These might be prescribed to reduce inflammation and treat any underlying infections.
- Lifestyle Adjustments: Avoiding environments that can exacerbate dry eyes, such as windy or dry places, and using a humidifier can help.

If these options are not effective, it’s important to discuss further with your ophthalmologist or seek a second opinion.

They said it can cause eye issues and it's also an immunosuppresant, which may be part of the reason it causes issues. You have to make sure people know you're on it because i had to stop it weeks in advance of some procedures. But my Rheumy told me to ask him for Xiidra if the Systane stops working. He's happy with how the Systane is working for now and haven't asked his opinion on Xiidra because i keep forgetting. Have to make a note for my follow up on the 16th.

Thanks, Debi4, you don’t use any prescription eye drops-Restasis, or Xiidra? Also, does your mask have moisture beads in it? Did you get plugs put in your eyes? If not, those are some suggestions for you to ask your ophthalmologist about. But then, I’m doing all the above and still having problems. Thanks for your input.😊💕🩷

Yes I’m on Plaquenil as well. I also use a nasal c-pap which blows on my eyes.
I was trying CBD oil to help me sleep and that was awful for drying out my corneas so I stopped it, went to Xanax.
My optometrist says once dry eyes always dry eyes. I also have dry macular degeneration.
I take AERDS supplements and use Systane eye drops (preservative free) twice a day.
I put drops in when I get in bed each night & use a 3D sleep mask. Not sure that helps hold the moisture in but my eyes weren’t as dry last eye check.
Good luck.
