@A MyLupusTeam Member grapefruit, bananas and apricots lower our blood pressure. Please do not eat fast food, processed foods nor baked goods. Transfats are killers you don't want to ingest any longer. Avoid white refined sugar, margarine and butter. It's best to eat a sugar free, organic plant-based diet. I've been adhering to a specific diet I was introduced to by a Rheumatologist who happened to be an holistic dietitian, he saved my life, I'm certain of that. Olive oil, avocados, moderate amounts of organic coconut oil are some named examples for sources which provide a healthy choice of fats, just like nuts and seeds. Cook home made stews, casseroles, ditch toppings and breading meat(soaks up to much oil). I usually cook meat/fish in one pot/skillet/pan/cookie sheet with all the other desired ingredients I wish to include. Be generous with herbs and spices, they taste fabulous and are fantastic little helpers in boosting our health one day at a time. PLEASE DRINK LOTS OF BOTTLED SPRING WATER THAT BRINGS DOWN OUR BLOODPRESSURE AND MINIMALLY HELPS PREVENT STROKES, HEART ATTACKS AND DVTS. You've got this💜❤️
P.s. My bloodpressure is usually too low, but can be all over the place too, especially when I'm having agonizing pain or flaring
Carter, you may want to ask for a referral to a nephrologist if you haven't yet done so, as they specialize in treating difficult-to-treat high BP.
Yes, both lupus kidney disease and our meds can cause us to have high BP, as AI says. Avoiding salt, exercising regularly (even walking daily), avoiding alcohol, and keeping our weight healthy all help control it. Increasing potassium intake through fruits and veggies helps, too.
It usually takes more than one medication to control our BP, so don't be discouraged, Carter. I also have hypertension and am on two meds with good control.
