Eating a plant-based (vegan) diet drastically reduces cholesterol, Debbie, and is worth considering. Check out PCRM.org and Forks Over Knives websites for more info on this if interested.

There's a newer type of cholesterol med, too, the PCSK9 inhibitors, that you can ask your doctor about.

Since you can't tolerate statins, it's important to work with your healthcare team to find alternative approaches. This might include lifestyle modifications like following a heart-healthy diet, regular exercise within your capabilities, and maintaining a healthy weight. Your rheumatologist and cardiologist should work together to develop a treatment plan that takes into account both your lupus and cardiovascular health. They may consider other cholesterol-lowering medications that aren't statins. Regular monitoring of your heart health through checkups and screenings is essential, as is managing other risk factors like blood pressure and inflammation from lupus.
