It took about that long and 4 doctor until the 5th one believed me. He keept running teast, he did the ones at hospital also. He didn't stop until he had a diagnosis. Past Doctors said it was "all in my head". The biggest problem is so many different symptoms that don't appear every time you see a doctor. Don't ever give up. If one can't help another doctor can.

Getting diagnosed with lupus can be a lengthy process, taking an average of six years from when symptoms first appear. This is because lupus is very complex and can produce many different symptoms that vary from person to person. There isn't a single definitive test that can diagnose lupus.

Instead, doctors use criteria from the American College of Rheumatology that includes various signs like:
- Different types of rashes
- Joint pain/swelling
- Kidney problems
- Neurological issues
- Mouth/nose sores
- Heart/lung inflammation Your rheumatologist will need to:
- Take a complete medical history
- Perform thorough workups
- Monitor symptoms over time
- Run multiple tests

Using a symptom tracker can help you document changes and provide better information to your healthcare team. While the diagnostic journey can feel frustrating, working closely with your rheumatologist and being patient with the process is important for getting proper treatment.
