Hello @A MyLupusTeam Member💜,
I too have the sensation of floating black strings/insects/flies in front of my eyes. It's bothersome and should make you head straight to your eye doctor. I've had this all my life, sometimes more sometimes less. Systemic lupus is a crazy disease, feel hugged and understood. How are you feeling otherwise?

Yes, lupus can affect your vision and eyes in several ways. Vision problems can range from mild to severe and may include blurred vision, eye inflammation, and changes to the blood vessels in the retina. These symptoms can be permanent in some cases if not treated properly.

Common eye-related lupus symptoms include:
- Dry eyes
- Blurred vision
- Inflammation of the eyeball
- Damage to eye movement nerves
- Changes to blood vessels in the retina
- Swelling around the eyes If you're experiencing persistent vision problems, it's crucial to see an ophthalmologist right away. Some eye conditions related to lupus can result in permanent vision loss if left untreated. Regular eye exams are important for maintaining eye health with lupus. Treatment options may include oral steroids, immunosuppressive medications, or other medications depending on the specific eye condition.

Ekaterina, if you have permanent objects in your field of vision, this is concerning, so please see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. Also, if you are on hydroxychloroquine, I agree with everyone about the necessity of regular examinations. Also, please be sure your dose is no more than 5 mg per kg of your body weight to help prevent retinal toxicity.

It sounds like you are talking about floaters. If you are or have taken Plaquenil, I suggest you schedule an appointment with your ophthalmologist. There are other causes as well..

When floaters developed in my eyes, they looked like black dots or a small bug on the side of my eye. My doctor said my eyes would adjust to them, and they have. Since my cataract surgeries, the floaters look like small black spots in the sky, but they don't bother me.
