Can lupus cause attacks similar to angina? From time to time I began to be bothered by a feeling of pressure in the center of the chest, as if several bricks were placed on it. Pain radiating to the back joined in. A sharp lack of air appeared, later shortness of breath, the attack ended with a strong heartbeat. It is controlled by nitroglycerin tablets, yesterday one was enough. The attacks began to recur more and more often. I am bothered by pain in the heart. At such moments I lie motionless… read more

Spasms of the coronary arteries can cause those symptoms including sudden cardiac arrest, arrythmia, a-fib, chest upper back left arm and jaw pain, but ALWAYS seek IMMEDIATE medical care Love to rule out a heart attack

Ekaterina, I agree with others that you should please be evaluated immediately for these symptoms! Lupus can cause angina, heart attacks, myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle), pericarditis (inflammation of the lining around the heart), arrhythmias, and other cardiovascular complications. Even young lupus patients can develop heart attacks, so please be checked! Keep us posted, please.

Yes, lupus can definitely cause chest pain and angina-like symptoms. This is because lupus is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular issues. If you experience crushing chest pain along with difficulty breathing, dizziness, heartburn, or cold sweats - seek emergency medical care immediately as these could be signs of a heart attack.

People with lupus are 7-9 times more likely to have heart attacks compared to the general population. Women with lupus between ages 35-44 have an especially increased risk. Other lupus-related causes of chest pain include:

• Costochondritis - inflammation where ribs connect to breastbone
• Pleurisy - inflammation of lung tissue
• Pericarditis - inflammation of heart tissue
• Myocarditis - swelling of heart tissue
• Intercostal neuralgia - nerve damage causing burning chest pain

While not all chest pain is life-threatening, it's important to take any new symptoms seriously when you have lupus and get them evaluated by a healthcare provider.

Yes PLEASE see a medical professional! Your symptoms are very worrisome and if it turns out to be something not so serious, you'll at least be relieved. If not, it's better to catch it now so you can start treatment immediately.
