Hello Team, I’m starting methotrexate as of today. Any advice as Im scared to death of side effects?
Thank you, yes he did prescribe the Folic acid as well and he did say we can switch it to subq injections if necessary. But i do appreciate this. I’m a nurse and I am well aware that all medications come with side effects but starting new medications always give me anxiety.
I've been on it for years. I started with the pills and a couple years later, switched to injections because I started having stomach upset. I don't have any side effects with the injections. Make sure to take your folic acid, especially the day off and day after for both forms but especially the pills (I take 2mg daily and 5mg the day of and day after). If you have nausea, they can up the dosage of the folic acid. I'm on a cocktail now of immunosuppressants but I can sure tell when im off the MTX(methotrexate). The pills made me sleepy the next day. I really hope it helps.
It's completely normal to feel anxious about starting a new medication. Methotrexate is typically taken once a week and works by calming your overactive immune system to help decrease lupus symptoms.
