Has anybody experienced their hair roots on their scalp paining like krazy even when you touch your hair it just gives an intense pain. I experienced this yesterday. Couldn't even tie my hair up it was so painful.
What helped soothe it was a soak in Epsom salts

It has happened to me. It sounds crazy doesn't it? Luckily my episode passed after a few days. I took Tylenol and that was enough.

It was terrible., like all my hair follicles had a headache 😭 The Epsom salts soak really helped! I am much better today thank you.
I have been indoors more lately due to it being Winter. But I think it's probably stress related too πŸ˜” I was dealing with some hubby dramas but it's all good now.

Question: What causes intense scalp and hair root pain in people with lupus, and what can help manage it?

Scalp pain and tenderness are common experiences for people with lupus, particularly if you have cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). This can cause sores, lesions, and sensitive areas on your scalp that make even basic hair care painful. Here are some management tips:

1. Avoid tight hairstyles like ponytails or braids that can increase scalp tension
2. Use gentle hair care products without harsh chemicals or fragrances
3. Reduce shampooing frequency (just rinse with water on non-wash days)
4. Protect your scalp from sun exposure
5. Continue with soothing treatments like your Epsom salt soaks

If the pain persists or worsens, consult your rheumatologist as they may need to adjust your medications or recommend specific treatments for scalp symptoms.

Hubby dramas are a definite trigger for us, and I've been there, too!πŸ˜‚ I guess it's better to laugh than cry about it. Our loved ones are a source of both support and stress, aren't they?

I'm glad it's all good now.😘

I haven't experienced this (yet!) Fatima, and I'm sure you're being very cautious about UV exposure and dairy intake to help prevent this inflammation. I hope you get relief soon, as this sounds miserable.😘
